Takamichi Beauty Room, a tiny, five-year-old shop near Gramercy Park, is a trove of marvels from all over the world, but Japan in particular. “We’re like a little cabinet of curiosities,” manager Naoko told me, “and we look for items that are eco-friendly and as natural as possible.”
Among the scents on offer: perfumes from Voyages Imaginaires, Aer, and Escentric Molecules, and perfume oil from Ortigia and Unifrom. Or perhaps one of the wonderfully named eaux de parfum by Leland Francis — Cowboy (spicy and green), Dirt Roads (earthy and woody), or Stoner (herbal, incense), as you wish.
Takamichi also stocks scented candles and soaps, Ku Washi Japanese incense, and other scented gift objects. Pour the Onsen Saru Hot Spring bath soak into the tub at the end of a long day and imagine yourself in the springs at Jigokudani Monkey Park, macaques not included. –Karen Moline
